skye passage | winter 2021 | elgol, skye, scotland
sat in the final glow, the days end.
a day, battered by weather. a day of extremes.
a day endured, now rewarded - a glorious breakthrough.
a brighter moment, a positive, lighter time ahead.
playful, dancing little waves, teasing, kissing, seducing the rocky shoreline.
across, in the distance, the reminder.
the reminder of an immovable darkness, the petrifying cold - absorbing all light.
the direct rays that warm me, only embellish the outer shell of the enclosed jagged crags.
the dark-core remains, impenetrable.
remaining dense, heavy with darkness. emotionless. lifeless.
but yet distant, across the divide.
the passage between the light and the dark.
the extremes divided by distance.
never too far to forget.
never too far to travel.
sometimes calm.
sometimes choppy.
sometimes tumultuous.
the passage - belonging to both the safe, warm shore.
belonging to the dark, inhospitable peaks.
the no mans land contested by light and dark, by shadow and warmth.
in the passage, life is lived.
drifting on the calms, content.
enduring the storms, surviving.
navigating the tides.
sailing for the warm shores.
eyes forward on the beauty ahead.
the barren landscape out of view.
yet, the more focused on the destination, the further away it drifts.
the more focused on the destination, the more of the journey’s encounters pass.
fleeting, unnoticed, lost to the depths.
the more focused on the destination, the more the journey’s hazards grow.
gravitating close to the rocks beneath the dark peaks.
must stay present, absorb the beauty of the present.
accept.
appreciate.
stay in the moment, live these moments.
experience the distance across the passage.
experience life’s unique passage of time.
